Comic Relief appeal raises £40.2m

Rants March 17th, 2007

First, let me say that I think Comic Relief is a GOOD thing. They do fantastic work and very efficiently…

But…

…I watched the whole thing last night, and very entertaining it was - albeit with some very disturbing videos scattered through the evening.

I began to feel very uncomfortable sitting there having a laugh and then watching a pretty harrowing video of people dying of AIDS and sheer poverty.

The Real Clown

I thought that we shouldn’t be begging the public to donate more money - we should be asking our politicians:

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS!?”

Not once did I hear a word of protest about the way our political masters squander our money on war and weapons. Just think what could be done with the money we’re about to waste on replacing Trident. For fuck’s sake we don’t even have a target for it!

Then there’s the obscene sum being poured into the failed adventures in Afghanistan and Iraq. We could be helping the children of the world rather than killing them.

Anyway, all I heard on Comic Relief was “give us your money”, when I think we need to hear “stop the killing and give us the money and resources to help in Africa

Too much to hope for I fear…
