The Anti Arty Farty Party …thoughts of an Ageing Hippy Highlander

26Jun/092

They fuck you up, your mum and dad…

Larkin might have written his famous poem for the damaged genius Michael Jackson.

I wouldn’t call myself a fan of his later work but I loved the Jacksons and The Jackson 5 and there is no doubt he was one of the most talented artists of the pop era.

Michale Jackson

Michael Jackson

It’s just sad that such a talented individual should have such a miserable life and an ignominious death.

Killed by the greed of those around him; his parents, his doctors. Echoes of Elvis…a tortured genius surrounded by sharks.

So RIP Michael you deserved your crown as King of Pop

Man stabbed at T music festival

clipped from news.bbc.co.uk
A man has suffered multiple wounds after being stabbed at T in the Park, Scotland’s biggest music festival.

We haven’t gone for the last couple of years as the whole thing seems to have succumbed to the scourge of commercialism and to be honest the increase in the crowd capacity has just spoiled things.

This poor bugger has gone for a good time and ended up being stabbed — it’s very sad.

T Camping!!

Perhaps if the police spent a bit more time making sure the neds didn’t get in with blades rather than trying to stop those with a little bit of dope this would be less likely to happen.

I’ve never seen a stoned person commit a violent act but we have to remember who sponsors this event — Tennents.

I’m sure the police were just trying to make sure that everyone got pissed rather than stoned so that Tennents profits could be protected.

I’ve never felt threatened at T but the last time we went the place was awash with neds and chavs, particularly on the Sunday — I suppose they don’t have to bother with work on the Monday.

The place was littered with Buckfast bottles even with a ban on glass containers.

We live in a funny world don’t we? Try to get a bit of blow in and the police dogs will be on you in a flash but it seems you can stroll in carrying blades and bottles without too much trouble.

I wonder if the Boys in Blue had their dogs backstage among the artists — I doubt it!

Don’t get me wrong, I still love T and will definitely be back when the line-up is worth it. This year’s bunch are all the usual suspects — we’ve seen them all before, in some cases (Kaiser Chiefs) virtually ever year.

And no, I’m not advocating that everyone should be smoking dope but I am a libertarian and I believe that you should be able to choose what you do to your own body — I don’t see how this kind of distorted policing helps. After all alcohol causes more problems than dope yet it’s promoted by society.

We Came, We Saw, We got off our faces!!

Well, jolly old T was a bit wet and cold but the entertainment was up to the usual high calibre.

We didn’t have a great start, the fucking car broke down half way between Aberdeen and Dundee. It was then that I discovered my AA membership had expired (of course).

Anyway, on to the AA who sent a total saint out 10 minutes after I called. He got us back to Aberdeen where he took us to a garage who could get the car fixed for when we got back. So we ended up having to hire a car — expensive weekend! (Don’t tell The Wife, for God’s sake)

We were only 2 hours behind schedule in the end so fucking great recovery methinks!

Highlights for me? The Who were awesome, certainly showed the young uns what a great rock band is all about. I’m afraid a bout of temporary unconciousness prevented all three of us seeing The Chillis — that and the fucking freezing rain!

The Strokes were fantastic as usual but the real surprise for me was Manu Chao — incredible!

Anyway, me, The Laddie and his Mate managed to get a wee bit minced on the Friday night after we got the tent up and we continued in that mode right up till we fell over on Sunday night!

Much time was spent in the Slam Tent — just staring slack jawed…

…so that’s why they call it Trance!

Didn’t do the Ceilidh Tent this year, every time we went over they seemed to be between bands…oh well, next year!

Teriffic T!

The Lassie and her friend went their own way so we didn’t see much of them but I believe a good time was had by all.

Big shout to Sarah who claims to be a regular reader of AAFP!!

So tickets go on sale tomorrow morning for next year so I’d better be up bright and early to nab a couple (yes, 9:00am is bright and early for me!)

ROCK??" href="http://www.antiartyfartyparty.co.uk/2006/07/are-you-ready-to-rock/" rel="bookmark">Are you ready to ROCK??

Ok all you cool cats and jive bunnies it’s come around at last!

Tomorrow I’ll be off to set up the tent at Balado for the fan-fucking-tastic T in the Park.

Me, The Laddie and The Lassie will be heading off for two days of family fun and lager. (The Wife is staying at home with the dug!)

The bets are on as to who will swally the most cocktails at the B-Bar and we’re all looking forward to a blowout.

Ra Boys!

Can’t wait to see The Who. It’s amazing, I was into The Who, Zeppelin, Deep Purple et al back in 1969 and here we are at the start of the 21st Century going to see The Who — fucking magic!

Me and The Laddie went to see Deep Purple last year. It’s like a weird kind of timewarp!

Anyway, if you recognise me then come and say hello and mines a pint…

T In The Park!

Way Hey! Managed to get 4 tickets for this Summer’s extravaganza!

T in the Park!

Really looking forward to seeing The Who — one of the few bands from my youth that I haven’t seen.

We’ve been to T for the last couple of years and it really is the best weekend of the year.

Fantastic music and lots of S n D n R n R!

Anyway if anyone out there is going this year drop us a line!
