Saw this comment on an article in the Scotsman and it’s got to be a piss take, surely!

Apparently this dude calling himself Da Bear is worried about our civil rights as there was a scare that maybe the swords used for sword dancing were to be banned under new legislation. It’s so Brig-a-Doon it’s fantastic.

Umm… You folks are so screwed … Sorry for the American idiom, but why the heck do you allow your Scottish heritage, traditions and identity be tossed down the politically correct toilet of such governmental tyranny? I have read enough Scottish history to see the deep burning fires of freedom that seared your hearts for 600 years, and now… what.. soft mannered droids, dependent on the failed dreams of a Socialist workers paradise , entire generations without passion and soul? How can any Scotsmen or Scotswoman look at themselves in the mirror each morning and not be ashamed of their lack of basic freedoms? No guns, no knives, no protection from criminals, no free speech, no privacy, almost no property rights, and no possible redress of the Orwellian nightmares of immigration and nationalization.

No, the way to Independence and away from the ‘failed dreams of a Socialist workers paradise’ is not through the ‘deep burning fires’ of passion but through the democratic process.

Scots have a more realistic view of themselves and I hope we’re now seeing that Independence IS an option.

Just make sure that when the election comes round that you keep the faith and vote SNP.

I will never, and would not permit my children to, pledge allegiance to The Queen or any other of the hangers-on that parade themselves as our betters. The sooner they all get jobs and pay their dues the better for me.

I listened to the idiot that came up with this crap idea and he didn’t think it should be a problem for Republicans to swear allegiance to the Queen. Do we actually go out looking for morons to take up these positions? Why would a Republican EVER consider such an act?

Personally, I’d be happy to swear allegiance to The Saltire and the People of Scotland as that would be a worthy cause. I just pray that I live long enough to see it happen.

This kind of shite just serves to confirm what a bunch of total no-hopers inhabit our “Government”. Gordon Brown has been a complete disappointment - in fact, I think he’s even worse than Blair, if that’s possible!

At last most of the Scottish people have seen sense and booted the dishonest, stupid, Politically Correct, corrupt, crony ridden shower of numpties that parades as the Labour Party in Scotland.

Unfortunately the old heartlands in the south central belt still voted for them. How could anyone vote for the likes of Jack McConnell and Andy Kerr? Probably the most third rate politicians we’ve ever had to endure. When are you people going to wake up and realise that these buffoons bear no resemblance to the Labour Party your grandfathers voted for after WWII? They’re a disgrace. At least in the past they had honourable leaders like John Smith. I’ve never voted Labour but at least I respected their motives. This current bunch are more like and organised crime gang than a political party.

The poor old Tories struggle along with a presence in the extreme south of the country but, bless them, they’re as irrelevant as ever as far as Scotland is concerned.

And the Lib Dems? Well, they’ll hold the balance of power no doubt and sell their souls as usual for a little taste of power.

One of the more positive outcomes was the decimation of the also rans. All the various nutter Scottish Socialists were shown the door. Good riddance I say - they just added to the embarrassment that the Scottish Parliament had become. The Greens managed to hold on to two seats. That’s what happens when chaotic leadership allows pressure groups to take them over as the “Gay” lobby seemed to do.

So the SNP have ended up the biggest party by just one seat - and about time too. Just a pity more didn’t see the light. I sincerely hope that Alex Salmond is selected as First Minister - we need to let Jack have a rest (permanently I hope).

Lots of controversy over the voting arrangements. Apparently people were confused by the ballot papers. Well, like many others I think that if you’re too stupid to complete the paper, and it was simple, then you’re too stupid to vote!

Interesting that a survey of Scots has defined Scottishness as…

“Speaking with a Scottish accent and being born In Scotland.”

This was deemed more important than the colour of a person’s skin.

The more I think about it the more I agree. One of the things about Scotland that I love is our common identity. Black, White, Lowlander, Highlander…We all have the same feeling of Scottishness if we’ve been born here, and a good Scottish accent only strengthens the feeling.
